1 Tim. 2:5, 6: There is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all men [people].

The Inference

The perfection of (unfallen) Adam can be inferred from the perfection of Jesus, and vice versa. This correspondence is evident from a comparison of Psa. 8:4, 5 with Heb. 2:6-9, in which the Apostle Paul quotes from Psa. 8, then adds his comment:

Psa. 8:4, 5: What is man that you are mindful of him, the son of man that you care for him? You made him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with glory and honour.

Heb. 2:6-9 ‘What is man that you are mindful of him, the son of man that you care for him?

You made him a little lower than the angels; you crowned him with glory and honour and put everything under his feet.’

In putting everything under him, God left nothing that is not subject to him. Yet at present we do not see everything subject to him. But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels, now crowned with glory and honour because he suffered death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone.

The Conclusion

Jesus died for Adam, and in dying for Adam, He ransomed Adam’s race (all people). The thought is further elaborated upon at 1 Cor. 15:21, 22:

For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man. For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive.
