CHURCHES
Every church, denomination, sect however called, and no matter how
well-intentioned it may begin inevitably drifts from its original,
simple purpose of preaching the Gospel of Christ.
It will, over its life, whether
short or long, accumulate extra-Biblical functions of administration and local
church culture, and will gradually introduce pet ideas and opinion under the
guise of doctrine.
It will take as its business the authority to regulate the
thought and behaviour of its members, reserving for those deemed intractable
the blunt instrument of disfellowshipment.
As with the natural human body, all
churches age and become sclerotic, hardened into a pious conviction that they
alone are in the right and specially loved by God. (AP)
