‘The day is past in which homemaking was solely a wife’s responsibility, with the husband in the role of permanent guest who assumed he was head of the family because he supported it financially.

 

The family today tends to have no head or two heads and homemaking is becoming a joint responsibility of husband and wife.

This does not mean necessarily that they divide equally between them all phases of housekeeping, family feeding, purchasing, and child rearing.

It does mean that men have a new role to play in the home and that they can no longer assume that domestic illiteracy is the only preparation they need for it.’
